            Pulling on the lead.

talalogoa

This is very common problem, & one that can easily be rectified with a little patience and the right technique / equipment for your dog. I hear of many "obedience" trained dogs that walk to heel beautifully at training, but as soon as they are outside or you don’t have treats in your pocket they’re off! Most dogs pull because you follow. It doesn’t mean that they enjoy it - bulging eyes, choking, neck pain, yelling owner - what’s to enjoy? It’s just habit, so we need to find a gentle way to change the habit.

Look at a double-ended lead. This uses a simple technique that suits many dogs.

The Mekuti Balance Harness is a patent pending design that enables you to ask your dog to balance without relying on you. It comes in 5 fully-adjustable sizes to ensure a comfortable fit & feedback is very positive.

DOUBLE-ENDED LEADS -

A Double-Ended Lead may help with : pulling on the lead,  Lunging,  Animals that escape from their harness or head halter.

Allows two points of contact (when used in conjunction with other equipment) making walking moredoubleendedleads1 pleasurable.

The leads currently available are made from Softex - a soft-feel material that is kind on the hands. The trigger hooks are two different sizes - a smaller one to attach to a head-halter (I'm very aware that some leads have a heavy clip &when this attached to a halter it can be quite uncomfortable for the dog), and a larger one to attach to the collar or harness.

The lead can also be used to attach to a single point and adjusts into a variety of lengths to allow you a greater degree of control or more freedom for your dog.

NB :- For heavier set dogs, I would recommend ordering the lead with two large trigger hooks which will be stronger & therefore more secure. This is only available in black or purple.

WHAT LENGTH DO I NEED ?
2.0m
- For a general purpose lead - (£9.80)
2.5m - For smaller dogs (to prevent you from stooping) - (£10.20)
3.0m - For use as a long-line or training lead - (£11.90)

"My favourite product is the double-ended lead. The fact that it is wider & kind of padded has been invaluable to me as a person with arthritis in my hands.
Thanks, Rachael, for all the good I've gotten out of your leash. Before I had it I hurt 4 of my fingers in a long-term way, 2 of which are permanently swollen. So you can imagine how I only use your leash & no other."

"My lead is fabulous, I work at a rescue centre so its very good for dogs who need a halti or harness or just basic lead training. It is already much used, so thank you for a brilliant product!"

Dogs learn very quickly. When a dog pulls on the lead a few times & realises that you follow it quickly becomes a habit. All the shouting & pulling on the dogs neck will do little to stop the behaviour, possibly making it worse and more importantly possibly cause damage to your beloved companion.

It is known that badly used collars can cause:

Soft tissue damage to the throat or windpipe

Vertebral damage to the neck & shoulders

Check chains can also remove the dogs coat from around the neck and cause pinch injuries leading to hypersensitivity in the neck area.

Badly used head halters can result in whip-lash type injuries ( which is why it is recommended that they are only used with a double-ended lead to also attach to the collar as a preventative measure.

Any dog leaning into their collar will have a reduced oxygen supply to their brains, thus making it difficult for them to think clearly, or even rationally. A dog that pulls on the lead is more likely to react badly when they see other dogs or people.

The patent pending Mekuti Balance Harness is made from webbing, with multiple attachment points to give you options on where the points of contact are to be. It comes in 5 sizes, each being fully adjustable behind & in front of the legs, & underneath the chest. This ensures a close, comfortable fit that doesn't pinch or rub. The seams are external on the chest for more sensitive dogs.

If your dog dislikes things going over their head, a Balance Harness is available (for an additional £1) with an extra clip to one side of the neck. This enables you to place the harness onto your dog without worrying them. (Only available in black and sizes ; small, medium & large)

HOW THE HARNESS WORKS
The Mekuti Balance Harness TM enables the handler to use two points of contact with the dog. When a dog pulls, you become part of their balancing technique. By using two connection points, you can withdraw one of the balance points before taking up the other. It sounds more complicated than it is. The end result is a dog that is unsure what he can lean into and therefore re-learns how to balance on his own four feet without relying on you - hence "Balance Harness". Once the dog has learnt this, you give fewer and fewer signals until he is walking alongside you without your input.

A dog walking on a loose lead :
May think more clearly

Responds rather than reacts

Reduces the chance of injury

Is a pleasure for its handler.

N.B. The Balance Harness only works with a double-ended lead.

TESTIMONIALS

What the professionals say
"Pulling on the lead is a highly rewarding behaviour, and one that is often well established before puppies come to class.
The balance harness together with the double-ended lead is a gentle approach to teaching a dog how to be in control of its body without causing pain and physical harm to the tender neck area.
Once owners have been shown how to use each of the lead attachments independently and give clear signals to the dog, they find that very quickly their dog will start to respond to the lightest touch, and there is no need for any further tension on the lead.
One of the most frequent comments I get about the balance harness is how much calmer dogs are when walked in them, and how very quickly, walking the dog changes from a battle to a pleasure."

"Thanks for sending the harnesses through. People are finding them really useful for puppies so that they don't get as far as learning to pull."
Willow Tree School for Dogs.

"Thank you so much for the harness, I LOVE IT !!!!
It's working really well for us. Been into town a few times now with him and he's just getting better and better! We had a real problem with pulling and also jumping out at people and dogs (in a friendly way), he just thinks everyone should love him. Now he's becoming quite a pleasure to take out.
It's a really kind way to teach your dog to heel and I have recommended it to others. I really like it as he doesn't choke himself on it and he didn't take to a halti at all."
Woody & Hannah, Wemyss

Thank you for sending my completed order of a Balance Harness and Lead, I just had to let you know what an ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT harness this turns out to be.

I am simply amazed how well it works with Molly, my 3-year chocolate labrador. She is like a different dog with this harness, a lot calmer and walks so much better.
We have been using the 'Canny Collar' which is ok, but the balance harness beats this one hands down. It's much nicer on the dog, without having a band going across the face, which Molly does from time to time tries to rub it off on your legs, and it's really easy to get the harness on and off, I love it, thank you so much, I know Molly prefers this harness rather than the headcollar, I can tell, no more rubbing on my legs to get the headcollar off and anyone else's when we stop and talk to people. I certainly shall be recommending the balance harness to our doggy friends who may need help with pulling, etc.
