Dear Geoff,
It is with great sadness that I inform you that our beloved King von
Borgersen died on September 24th after a valiant 18½ -month
battle with mitral valve endocardiosis and heart failure. We are
very grateful that, with few brief exceptions, he was happy and able to
do what he enjoyed doing during that period. His lifespan
following the original diagnosis in March, 2003 far exceeded the
expectations of either his cardiologists or
his veterinarian. That being said, the inevitable void he has
left has
enhanced our sense of how lucky we were to have such a truly phenomenal
friend.
I thought you might enjoy seeing this photograph taken last October in
Bar Harbor, Maine.
Best regards,
Joan Muellerleile and Dumont Jones
Dear
Geoff,
I wrote to you in October to tell you of our beloved King’s death of
heart failure. I do not believe that you will be too surprised to
learn that we met and took home a new beloved GSD, King “Dynamo” von
Black Bear. He is now 7 months old and weighs nearly 80
pounds. We will not be surprised if he reaches 100 pounds.
While he could never replace King von Borgersen – nor would we want him
to – he has helped us significantly with dealing with King III’s loss,
and is quite the little character in his own right. We are very
pleased and grateful to have him. Attached is a picture of him
with my husband Dumont Jones, taken in January.
Britain is also very fortunate to have the return of a very special and
spectacular veterinary cardiologist, Dr. Virginia Luis-Fuentes, who is
now at the Royal Veterinary College in London. Dr. Luis-Fuentes
diagnosed and treated King III for the first nine months of his mitral
valve endocardiosis and atrial fibrillation, and episodes of congestive
heart failure.
If any of your readers’ dogs ever require specialized cardiac care, we
cannot recommend her highly enough. It was a privilege to have
worked with her with King III.
Congratulations regarding your new canine arrival, and best wishes for
a successful integration of all in “the pack.”
With best wishes,
Joan Muellerleile and Dumont Jones
