| The
eyelashes and eyelids protect the eye from bright sunshine and keep
foreign objects and dust out. The surface of a dog's eye is flatter than humans. This makes it more difficult for them to change the shape of their lenses. This means dogs find it hard to distinguish between small or very close objects. It is believed that dogs percieve colour differently to humans and see the world in pastal shades. The colourful reflection that can be seen if a light hits a dog's eyes is due to crystals in the tapeturn lucidum, the highly reflective area of the retina, which refracts light. |
