Although we primarily deal with German Shepherd Dog owners we occasionally come across people dealing with other breed rescues.  This was the case a few months back on browsing the internet when I came across a site dedicated in knitting dog coats for the benefit of all rescue dogs.  This knitting circle enjoys knitting up their oddments of wool for a good cause and I decided to join them.

How the team works is that the volunteer knitters give their time for free, using wool donated by themselves or others.  Once they have finished a batch of coats, they send them to Carrie Warr in Derbyshire and she photographs them, describe them, and gets them onto their website.

During 2007, all proceeds from sales went to either Dogs Trust or The Oldies Club; in 2008 their nominated charities will be Dogs Trust and Ashbourne Animal Welfare.  They also regularly donate batches of coats to other rescue centres so they can benefit too.

So far this year 2008 Watford German Shepherd Dog Help and Information has donated a total of 20 dog coats of various sizes to the K9knitterati team with the intention of providing more.  My thanks to Mrs Baker and Mrs Porton for donating some of the wool used. If you wish to find out more about the K9 Rescue Knitting Club or want to participate yourself visit them on their website.
