A boy of ten was
killed when his pet dog dragged him in front of a passing car.
Dion Smith was
walking German Shepherd Kurt when it is thought the hound leapt into
the street.
The lad was hit
by a Honda and collapsed on to the pavement. He was rushed to
hospital where he died of massive head injuries.
Last night his
mum Kirsty told how she had asked Dion to give the dog its evening walk
because she felt ill. The 28 year old gave him her mobile as she
was afraid of him walking out in the dark.
Dad Kristian,
also 28, told Dion to use the walk to visit his grandparents to show
them a new jacket.
Kirsty, from
Retford, Notts, said "When he didn't come back, I rang my phone three
times. Someone else answered - and I just knew.
"Dion was a
beautiful, bright boy with an infectious personality. I can't
believe I'll never see him again."
Dion's head at
Carr Hill School broke the tragic news to fellow pupils yesterday.
The female crash
driver, 72, was treated for shock.
Dog Kurt had
minor injuries. Police were investigating reports it ran into the
road.
