Two children and
four adults have been injured by two German Shepherd dogs which had
escaped from their home in in Shakespeare Avenue, Filton near Bristol
at around 9am.
Four ambulances
and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene. Ambulance
crews confirmed four people were taken to hospital, a fifth person went
on their own and an off duty paramedic treated a sixth at the
scene. Great Western Ambulance Service said: "Those taken to
Frenchay Hospital by Great Western Ambulance Service (GWAS) include a
15-year-old schoolboy bitten on the arm and a six-year-old girl bitten
on her left side.
"The girl's
45-year-old mother was bitten on the forearm and bicep as she tried to
fend the dogs off her daughter.
A 34-year-old woman who was taking with her two young children to
school was also bitten by the dogs who started their rampage in
Shakespeare Avenue before making their way along Filton Avenue. The 34-year-old woman
was taken to hospital with reported puncture wounds.
It was in Filton Avenue that they set upon the 15-year-old boy who was
bitten on the arm as he stood outside a newsagents. The owner ushered
children on their way to school inside the shop for safety.
None of the
injuries was reported as serious.
The dogs were seen barking and trying to attack passers-by on the
junction of Filton Avenue and Shakespeare Avenue on Monday.
An Avon and
Somerset Police spokesman said the victims had no connection with the
dogs and both animals which neighbours say are about a year old were
captured after the attack and are now being held in Kennels.
A 30-year-old
man from Bristol was arrested and held for questioning under the
Dangerous Dogs Act.
The
incident comes just days after three-month-old Jaden Joseph Mack was
tragically mauled by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and a Jack Russell at
his grandmother’s home in south Wales, prompting more calls to
re-examine the existing Dangerous Dogs Act.
