Lewis Dog
Boots are the most durable boots we have seen
to date. They are light, pliable, very tough. Boots are made of tire
tread rubber with a tread on the sole to increase the life of the boot
and for non-slip traction. Secure dog boots to dog's feet with
waterproof adhesive tape. Measure dog's front foot from heel to include
longest toe nail. Also measure back foot since they may not be the same
size. Set of 4 dog boots. Instructions included.| DOG

| Dear
Geoff I don't know if this would be of interest to your readers - or perhaps the information has already been included in an earlier newsletter (in which case you need read no further!) - but I have recently purchased shoes for my GSD from the under noted site. The site address was given to me by an ex-police dog handler. http://www.neopaws.com I have tried several shoes from various British sources (at considerably cost) but unfortunately none of them has stood up to the particularly difficult type of terrain we have here for dog walks. We live in a rather hilly area with only rough stony forest walks so with my GSD's problem, CDRM, with one of his hind legs dragging particularly badly resulting in bleeding toes, even the best of shoes has worn out within a couple of weeks, and patching is seldom successful on a long-term basis. However, the above site is in Canada and the shoes are designed for heavy duty purposes and Canadian winters - they are preformed into a boot shape and come a few inches up the leg. But the main point is that the heavy-duty sole also comes up the front edge of the boot and round its sides. Obviously with a dog dragging his paw this helps tremendously and of course it is completely waterproof which is a big plus in the Highlands of Scotland! The rest of the shoe is, I think, a flexible neoprene material and wraps round the ankle and tied with Velcro. The price is cheaper than many I have tried, and even taking postage into account, is not untoward. I should also add that they also make a light-weight boot for less demanding terrain. We have adapted the boot's ties because it was difficult to physically support Shadow while tying them on, so we have sewn on broad heavy duty Velcro to make it easier for ourselves, but that is obviously a choice to make. The attention to our order was exemplary and despatch/receipt very quick given the distance factor. On the web site a "pattern" of the different sizes offered is given and can be printed off for measuring against your own dog's paws. We misjudged and first ordered shoes which turned out to be too big so they had to be sent back, but a new set was sent immediately and they are fine. I hope I am not labouring something with which you may well be familiar, but if this recommendation helps people with the same problems we have experienced in trying to make life just that little bit better for our beloved Shadow while we still have him, then perhaps you will excuse the liberty! (Finally, if any one wants further information I would be happy to oblige.) Kind regards, Joy Watson |
| Hi again Geoff I would be quite happy for you to pass on the information re the Neopaws shoes if it would help others with the same problems as we are experiencing with our GSD. Yes, you did put me in touch with Karen (DogMobility) who was very, very helpful and I did buy a pair of her shoes for Shadow at Christmas time - they are extremely neat and fit very well and are very easy to put on, BUT unfortunately they are not sufficiently hard-wearing for our kind of terrain. Within a week the foot that drags had worn through the front of the shoe and although my husband had a go at patching this, it wasn't really satisfactory as we couldn't find anything to use for the patch that would stand up to the stony forestry roads for any length of time without being flexible enough for the dog's comfort. To quote from the description in the Neo-Paws pamphlet which came with the shoes: "High Performance Shoes: this is an injection moulding process which resembles that of a running shoe. The rubber is formed and moulded to cover the entire paw area of the shoe and rises around the seams. This process has been developed for your dog's ultimate protection. A new reinforced heel makes the shoes more durable and they have a longer life span. Designed to prevent burning pads and cuts, and to comfort hip dysplasia during walks and sporting activities. Also protects against injury from dragging paws. They offer shock absorption and prevent dogs from slipping on icy or wet surfaces as well as on hardwood floors." To be honest, the neopaws shoes weren't any more expensive than the others I have bought here - around Canadian $60 for a set of 4 (depending on size) + p&p. The only negative aspect is that the shoes are marked for a left and for a right foot so theoretically are not intended to be interchangeable, but the difference between them is so minor that I think they could be used on either foot although perhaps not quite such a neat fit on the wrong foot. We have tried them on the wrong foot and Shadow doesn't seem to notice any difference. However, you can buy singly or pairs, or whatever, so the choice is yours. The fact that they are waterproof is a big bonus. I do hope that some GSD owners will find the neopaws site of use - it all depends on the type of problem your dog has and the kind of terrain you have to use for walking. Finally - it would be very very useful if YOU could persuade some of the usual dog shoe suppliers in the UK to become distributors for neopaws! Kind regards,Joy Watson |

the dogs weight from directly beneath the pelvis; this area is double
thickness to help prevent discomfort. Suitable for both dogs and
bitches, it enables dogs to urinate and defecate without restriction. |
A top flap affords protection for operation sites with two adjustable, quick release fastenings. Adjustable handles are supplied with comfort pads. The Shortz provide freedom of movement for both dog and handler; with less back strain, compared to using a conventional sling. |

Front
“comfort” walking harness for exercising dogs recovering from surgery
and those that require additional front support. Offering
control and support to animals who may have a tendency to “race away”
following surgery, this front harness evenly distributes the dogs
weight across the chest area, avoiding any strain on the neck or
back. A simple “walk-in” design with single quick release
fastening and total adjustability ensures the dog is both comfortable
and secure. Freedom of movement with minimal shoulder restriction; the
Walkeez can safely be left on the dog whilst free running. Used
together with the Shortz a convalescing animal has freedom and
independence whilst being supported and controlled. All of our
products are manufactured to a very high standard, in the UK, from
neoprene material, using the finest quality, high tensile fittings
available. The neoprene is both cushioning and comfortable; it moulds
itself well to the wearer whilst providing much needed support.
Neoprene is a non-breathable material. All the garments can be machine
washed at 40oC on a reduced agitation cycle. The neoprene material will
dry very quickly at room temperature or on a domestic washing line,
making them extremely economical to keep clean and hygienic. |

A nylon, supportive rear end
leash-harness designed to help animals with broken bones, arthritis,
dysplasia, or any other skeletal or muscular problems. It allows the
animal to perform bodily functions (urinate and defecate) unencumbered,
while being supported by a person who lifts a portion of the animal's
weight at a 90-degree angle from the top of the back, in front of the
tail area. It works by taking the animal's weight off its hind legs.
The animal will still go through the walking motion, but you will be
supporting a portion of their weight. |
