Alfie Golden Retriever

Alfie's owners
were going away on holiday so Alfie came to stay with us for a week. He
is a five year old entire male, who certainly loved being with all the ladies
in our pack. He started of at my house with the five quieter dogs plus
Chloe retriever who had also come for her holiday. He got on extremely
well with the dogs in my house so we started socialising him with the dogs
at Geoff's house. It wasn't long before he was getting along with all
of the dogs. Considering it was his first time in encountering so many
dogs in one pack he coped surprising well.
I took him for a walk with Tessie Shepherd and Tala Shepherd and he fell
instantly in Love with Tessie. He spent most of the walk being corrected
for trying to hump her whilst on the lead. Thankfully half an hour
into the walk the message finally got through and we continued for the rest
of the week with no humping incidents.
Alfie is a lovely if somewhat lively boy who can be quite demanding at times.
He is very strong so when he was walked with the other six dogs he
had to wear a head collar to prevent him from charging off down the street.
It took him a while to get used to it as I don't think he is used to
being told what he can and cannot do. but after a couple of days he
got the hang of it.
He was a joy to look after and it was interesting in watching the behaviour
of the other dogs with an entire male around. For the first couple
of days it was noticeable that the atmosphere within the pack had changed
with an introduction of an entire male, but as Alfie did not show any signs
of dominance to the other males in the pack everything soon settled down
and he was readily accepted.
