Poisoned Puppy

One of our pet rats had to be
put down recently. Three weeks later, I came home from work to find
that our puppy had dug the dead rat up and eaten it. My puppy looked
very ill, so I rang the vet to ask for advice and was told to bring the dog
in. Up untill this stage, I was under the impression that the rat had
been gassed on the operating table. However, I was then told that it
had been given a fatal injection. I rushed the puppy to the vet.
She was taken into intensive care immediately, though I'm pleased to say
she recovered with no long term side effects.
My advice to anyone who owns a small mammal that has to be put down is to
ask how the vet did it. I would never want another family to go through
what we did.
