Warts
are very common in older dogs. In most cases, the warty lumps
that grow are benign and can be safely left untreated. Sometimes
nasty lumps can start off looking like warts. Any masses that are
causing problems need to be surgically removed to prevent them from
causing future problems. Even benign warts can be itchy or be in
positions where they can become damaged and bleed and may need
treatment. Topical creams such as Sudocream or vaseline can
alleviate the itching as long as it cannot be licked off by the
dog. More effective antibiotic creams and anti-inflammatory medicines can be
prescribed by your vet.
